-It was a tough week and especially weekend for those left behind in Illinois to fend for themselves in awful weather conditions. Kudos to those meet directors who did not cancel meets, and teams that braved 25-30 degree weather with tropical force type winds mixed with artic real feel and blowing snow. When the 70s and 80s eventually get here near the end of the season, it will come with great appreciation.

Frankfort (Lincoln Way East) girls traveled to Texas as part of their annual pilgrimage to a national meet. The Lady Griffins ran into unseasonable climes to Texans that hovered into the 40s and 50s for much of the weekend and especially at night. Seniors Kayla Hylton, Asia Brown, and Alexis Pierre-Antoine competed in individual events: 100m and 100H. Hylton has the #1 time in the state in the Century running 12.07. Hylton just missed the Division 2 final. Brown ran a solid time in her prelim race and came away with the #2 time in Illinois at 12.30. Pierre-Antoine and club mate Kyla Jimmar (Sr., Richards) competed in the 100HH. Pierre-Antoine ran the third fastest time of her career in 14.70 competing in Division 2. Pierre-Antoine's mark is IL #2. Jimmar who used a 12.55 open dash as a warm-up to her beloved hurdles qualified running 15.04 in Division 1. Hylton continued her strong surge and placed fourth in the final clocking a wind legal 14.78 which is just a tick off of her 14.77 all-time best. Jimmar rates as IL #3 and appears to be back on track after a tough 2015 outdoor season.

Texas Relays is what it is... the relays. Elite teams from all over the nation come to Austin to compete for supremacy. Lincoln-Way East is the best team in the state by far and the ultimate test for them would be the Texas Relays. Would the Griffins disappoint or show and prove to themselves and the nation? It probably depends on who you ask the question. At any rate Lincoln-Way East can at least leave Austin knowing where they stand. The 4x2 produced a 1:40.82 that placed 11th in the prelims- good for IL #1/US #26. The 4x1 fared decent solidly with another state leading 47.92- 10th in the prelim and just missing the final by a spot... the 4x4 ran 4:04.27. No explanation here and obviously not the best effort from a team that ran a lights out 3:54 indoors.
