Gabrielle Desroisiers Earns Hat Trick Performance in Girls 2A Top Times

The girls counterpart had a much different take than the boys in that the performances would be individual based as opposed of Cahokia centered action. However, if such existed it would be Chicago Brooks College Prep. Then there are some other great looks in the field events as well as track to be considered.

  • The field events got things started in a big way in the long jump. Imani Carothers (So., Chicago Brooks) needed just three jumps to get the classification record with a 19-3.75.
  • Carothers was back in her main event the 60H where she easily produced the top seed from the prelims running 8.85. The finals proved even better with Carothers taking the title in 8.85 with stays IL #3.
  • Gabrielle Desroisiers (Sr., Chicago Lawndale) had to change her tune after a sluggish start in the prelim 60 that netted a paltry 7.90 and third seed for the final. Desroisiers knew that she slipped in the blocks and it would not happen again. It did not happen again. Desroisiers got out better and shot down the straight and held off a resurgent Makayla Pierce (Sr., Chicago Westinghouse) 7.81-7.87. Chicago Public League girls took the top three spots and five of the top six overall... Desroisiers entered in the 400 for just the second time this season. It was a fast start for Desroisiers in which her opponents could not keep up. Desroisiers completed the task in 57.15- good for IL #3. The event of the day for Desroisiers would be her favorite the 200. She would turn back a second consecutive Kaneland sprinter. In the 400, it was Nicole Sreenan the victim. The deuce saw Desrosiers easily win against Allie Heinzer 25.05-25.46. It was a rare hat trick for Desroisiers.
  • Kassadee Ifft (Sr., Prairie Central) has always been one of the premier pole vaulters in the state. Her stock just risen a bit more when she won the competition with a state best 13-0 and US #9 overall. The bar was raised to 13-3 and Ifft had a few good cracks at it. She is expected to clear that height during the outdoor season.
  • Jamari Drake (Sr., Springfield Southeast) retained her title in the high jump winning a close battle over Christina McNab (Sr., Providence Catholic) leaping 5-6.
  • Grace McGlaughlin (So., Rockford Boylan) battled late and finally shook Lauren Whitehouse (Sr., Mahomet-Seymour) to win the 3200m in a class best 11:05.65.
  • Karina Liz (Sr., Aurora Central Catholic) and teammate Abby Fioresi (Jr.) teamed up to overpower the competition in the 800 going 1-2 with solid 2:14.32 and 2:14.35 times which are IL #2 and #3.
  • Kara Martin (Sr., Herrin) rode a tremendous surge the second half of the race to win the 1600 by three seconds in 5:04.74.
