The New York City skyline with the Brooklyn Bridge inserted is an extraordinary sight for the eyes
New York, New York...
There is nothing like a vacation, umm I mean work assignment called the New Balance Indoor National Championships. I had an opportunity to visit one of my favorite spots in the whole world recently: New York City. New York has always been near and dear to me in case you did not know. I have always felt like an adopted son because I have spent a lot of time in the Big Apple as a kid and into parts of early adulthood. The butterflies never cease when I see the great New York City skyline from one of the many New Jersey towns that line the Hudson River.
New York intro-
Coach Jeff Bryant and me arrived into New York two days before the start of the first day of competition late Wednesday. I had already scouted out my work assignment and the athletes that I attended on covering. Thursday morning began with a warm sensation in that the Mercury was already in the upper 60s at 8:30 in the morning. I actually woke up late and was greeted with a $115 parking ticket because the street that I parked on said: "No parking from 8am-8pm." Welcome to New York!
The rest of the morning improved as Tom Scholle (Lane Tech junior Maggie Scholle's dad) and me went for a run along the Intrepid, Sea, and Space Museum. The beautiful scene was along the Hudson River between the West Highway in the Hell's Kitchen section of Manhattan. We were also walking distance from Time's Square and other historic sites that meet the eyes well.
As the day wore on the temperatures got up to 79F and sunny. It was one of the few days on a track and field trip that I actually got to enjoy myself around town. We were able to go to lower Manhattan to see and film a few sites such as the Financial District, Freedom Tower, and more.
