Illinois Milesplit Workout Wednesday: Training In A School Hallway

The Midwest winters are mixed in with frigid times and at times horrid training conditions brought on by snow, high winds, and endless days of dreary skies. So it is a pretty obvious choice for athletes and coaches alike to train and compete indoors during the winter months. Indoor track and field season usually starts in early January and conclude in mid to late March. In Illinois, contests are held in field houses that are associated with high schools or colleges. But there are only a few schools that actually have adequate indoor facilities in the state of Illinois. Most teams train in their hallways after school, competing for precious space with all of the other school extracurricular activities. Lane Tech High School in Chicago is no stranger to this despite the notion of some that it is a school blessed with endless amounts of natural resources. This is NOT TRUE. Despite the lack of a true indoor training facility, the Indians are able to produce city, regional, and state competitors and champions. It would be great one day to have a facility that is actually suited for the athletes.
