If you are an athlete, fan, or just a straight hater in the state of Illinois youth and/or high school track and field, then somewhere along the way you have heard of the Aurora Flyers Track Club. The youth oriented club that services ages 8-18 (some older and some younger) has been around since 1988 under the tutelage of Mr. Thomas Boatright.
Coach Boatright is the head man in charge of the nationally known compound in which he founded on a sort of a dare. It was an associate that challenged Boatright, who once played with the legendary Walter Payton of the Chicago Bears, stating he could not get his daughter to run like him. The challenge was accepted and conquered. The rest is now history. MileSplit Illinois was fortunate enough to be granted full access inside the world of Thomas Boatright and his Aurora Flyers at a practice in mid-December. The uncut Boatright shares a little slice of why he is one of the best to ever do it in Illinois.
