Lyons Township may have another outstanding relay corps in the making (Mark Capapas photo)

4x800-

Chicago Whitney Young 8:15.98, Mundelein 8:25.96, Chicago Jones 8:27.82

-Whitney Young fresh off of a great cross country season in which they placed 5th in the 3A division, looked like they were in mid-season form. The Dolphins are deep as evidenced by three missing pieces which are poised to run sub 2:00 legs. Nevermind that Evan Radomski, Sam Rivera, and Clayton Mendez were testing or holding clipboards. Anthony Tuman led off for the Dolphins in a swift 2:00 and it was pretty much an open and shut case. Top xc man Keduse Worku cruised him on anchor in 2:06 making a solid day look real easy.

4x200-

Lyons Twp. 1:33.64, West Chicago 1:35.34, Proviso West 1:35.96

-Once again with the unpredictable relay that is accident prone, the fastest times don't always come out of the championship section. Such was the case for the loaded section six which had multiple uncalled infractions and bad transitions. Proviso West was able to slip through the carnage but would finish third overall. Lyons Twp and West Chicago endured less traffic from section five and thus had the two fastest times. Romeoville was in the mix in five as well but did not compete in the late going. The Lions were awarded with the state best mark for their enduring work.

4x400-

Whitney Young 3:32.30, Chicago Brooks 3:33.65, West Chicago 3:35.02

-Brooks entered the final section as the state leader and departed as the state leader. However, the Eagles could not reel in Whitney Young who produced steady and swift legs during each circuit. Actually the Dolphins were never really challenged despite the one second plus difference in time. The gap was even bigger between Brooks and West Chicago who fought off other teams for the silver and bronze medals.
