2017 Class 3A Boys Sprints and Hurdles Preview: The New Era Begins

Travis Anderson (white) and William Session (blue) waged one of the great 110HH battles of all time

110HH-

2016 State Champion: Travis Anderson (Sr., Edwardsville) 13.71  [+2.6]

Key returners: Travis Anderson, Jordyn Carr-Jones (Sr., Addison Trail), Jace James (Sr., Glenbard North), more

Outlook: The much hyped battle for the state championship between Travis Anderson and William Session Belleville East) lived up to its billing and then some. It started in the prelims where both titans dropped ridiculously fast times (heavy wind aided) that set up Saturday's finale perfectly. Anderson and the defending champion battled through each hurdle step for step. Anderson's precision and determination won it for him 13.71-13.72. EPIC! Unfortunately, it appears as though Anderson will not have much of a challenge in defending his title in May. Perhaps, the future University of Nebraska Huskie will leave the cozy confines of Edwardsville and travel to a national meet or two. US#1 Damian Thomas from Florida would the challenge. As for Anderson he is ranked in the top 5 returner regardless of conditions.

It could be another fast and pain straining year in the 300IH

300IH-

2016 State Champion: William Session (Belleville East) 37.46

Key returners: Travis Anderson (Edwardsville), Delano Anderson (ESL), Jace Jackson (Fremd), Joey Zubak (Wheaton Warrenville South)

Outlook: Not the best or deepest event on the docket, but things could improve with Travis Anderson and Delano Anderson in the field. Hopefully, they will run more than a handful times. If not someone else will need to emerge. Jace James may be that one to boost his stock and move into the 37s this spring.
