2017 Class 3A Girls Distance Pre-Season Preview: Girl Power

Reilly Revord enjoyed a great track season in 2016

1600m

2016 State Champion: Kelly O'Brien (Palatine) 4:56.37

Key returners: Reilly Revord (Jr., Hinsdale Central), Lindsey Payne (Jr., Glenbard West), Sarah May (So., York), Emily Shelton (Jr., Minooka), Ashley Tutt (Sr., Minooka), Brooke Wilson (Sr., Prospect), Isabelle Sparreo (Jr., Stevenson), Jenna Lutzow (Sr., Belvidere North), Audrey Ernst (Jr., St. Charles North)

Outlook: It was a great year in this event in 2016. Kelly O'Brien got revenge from a last place xc state finish to winning the state title and going on to running the second fastest time ever in this event (4:45) for an IL girl. Could Reilly Revord be in a similar position as O'Brien was? She did not have a stand out xc season either. Maybe we will see what rest and a mental break can do to get things back in order will bring. She is the top returner overall in time and state placement. Don't forget about that sensational 4x8 carry that broke the back of Schaumburg in last year's championship? Revord has the right mix of speed and distance and if she is healthy she will go under 4:50. An emerging group will fall in line but should be solid. Look for Jenna Lutzow to run a few more 1600s this season. Her love affair with the 800 may keep her from reaching full potential here though.
