2017 Class 2A Boys Sprints and Hurdles Preview

Deion McShane got his first state title last year. But will he be the favorite again this season?

110HH-
2016 State Champion: Deion McShane (Jr., Freeport) 14.45  [+3.2]
Key returners: Deion McShane, Bret Dannis (Jr., St. Bede), Solomon Wilson-Walls (Jr., Tinley Park)
Outlook: 2016 1A champion Bret Dannis moves into this classification and will make things very interesting. Deion McShane will certainly enjoy the company of Bret Dannis who has already made himself known with some impressive times during the pre season. He clocked 8.03 for 60HH which would have been one of the elite times in the state in late March! Of the six returning six sub 15.00 performers, Solomon Wilson-Walls and Steven Migut stand the opportunity to make the biggest supporting cast gains.

McShane is still the best overall hurdler in Illinois until otherwise

300IH-
2016 State Champion: Deion McShane (Jr., Freeport) 37.18
Key returners: Deion McShane, Reed Vanderheyden (Jr., Geneseo), Bret Dannis (Jr., St. Bede), Stephon King (Sr., Peoria Manuel), Steven Migut (Jr., Tolono Unity)
Outlook: It was a great battle between long time friendly rivals Deion McShane and Reed Vanderheyden at the state meet. Both were clearly the class of the field and ultimately went 1-2. McShane's quest at a sub 37.00 was a bit disappointing to him but he was happy with the win. With the inclusion of Bret Dannis the test will get tougher in this event. For the first time ever, we could see three sub 37-second performers in one season.
