2017 Class A Boys Pre-Season Sprints and Hurdles Preview: Fast Times Abound

Bret Dannis was victorious over both barriers short and long last year... but he has moved up to 2A

110HH-

2016 State Champion: Bret Dannis (Jr., Peru St. Bede) 14.25 [+2.1]

Key returners: Trey Miller (Sr., Lewistown), Curtis Gordon (Sr., Vandalia), Hayden Goleman (Sr., Elmwood-Brimfield Co-op)

Season outlook: There were supposed to be three all state returners back, but the state champion Bret Dannis has moved up to 2A. It should an interesting time watching this event evolve without him. Not to take anything away from Dannis who won decisively in Charleston, but there were plenty of people that ticketed Curtis Gordon to be the victor. The Illinois Top Times winner at 60HH seemed distracted by his success in the pole vault. No one will really know for sure but he will have another year to improve. As for Dannis he was unbeatable all season and it was no contest as soon as the starter's pistol signaled the race. He will be tough to beat considering he has the second fastest mark in the state behind 3A monster Travis Anderson (Sr., Edwardsville). Don't forget that Trey Miller finished second in Charleston last year.

There are four total returners but only Hayden GolemonJudd Anderson and Connor Artman have broken 40.00 among the lot.
