On June 27th and 28th we will once again be hosting a distance coaching clinic with four of the top coaches in the United States at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, KS. Last year's event drew over 80 coaches from 9 different states. The 2018 speaking lineup consisted of Scott Christensen (Stillwater, MN), Jonathan Dalby (Mountain Vista, CO), Greg Coplen (Valor Christian, CO), Jason Druten (West Torrance, CA) and Timothy Ives (Dowling Catholic, IA). The 2019 event will maintain the same level of excellence and includes the following coaches: Pat Tyson - Tyson is the coach at Gonzaga University. Prior to that, he was the coach at Mead high school in Spokane where his boys were the most dominant high school team of the 1990's. To earn a spot on Tyson's top ten list at Mead, you'd have to run under 4:10 and 9:05. He also coached collegiately at Oregon and Kentucky. Tyson is also famously known for running on an NCAA national champion XC team with his legendary college roommate, Steve Prefontaine. He will discuss his training theory as well as the little things that make a big difference. Dr. Jeff Messer - Dr. Messer is a coach at Desert Vista in Arizona. He's coached boys and girls at Desert Vista and helped guide two different schools to NXN. He has also coached multiple athletes to the Footlocker Finals. Dr. Messer serves as the department chair in exercise physiology at Mesa Community College and is regarded as one of the brightest scientific minds in our sport. Dr. Messer is one of the nation's most sought after clinicians and will be speaking on the current science and it's application in endurance training as well as training theory. Dave Emmans - Emmans is the girls coach at Wayzata high school in Minnesota. His girls are perennial NXN qualifiers and Heartland region champions. In 2013 the Wayzata girls won the Nike Cross National Championship and this past season they finished 3rd. The Wayzata girls have won 5 Heartland championships and finished top 7 at NXN 5 times as well. He is a USATF coaching instructor and will discuss training theory and communication. Brian Finnel - Finnel is the head coach at Middleton high school in Wisconsin. His boys are one of the strongest up and coming programs in the nation as they have qualified for NXN each of the last two seasons. Personally a great runner himself, Finnel just finished 54th overall in the Boston Marathon with a time of 2:26.26. He will discuss team culture and training theory.
