7. Emma Argo (Sr., Eureka)- #9
There is no doubt in my mind that Emma Argo is one of the elite runners in the state. The 1A state champion did what she had to do to defend her title. She withstood an early threat from sophomore Lydia Roller of Staunton. It was in the "Bermuda Triangle" that Argo went to work and put away Roller and the competition. The result was a personal best 16:59. Argo was the only Class A girl under 17:00 and just the third non 3A girl to break the gold standard at the state meet.
