6. Jack Roberts (Sr., Downers Grove North)-
I honestly don't know who was the breakout star of the DGN juggernaut last season. There was Miles Christensen, Jacob Ridderhoff, and Roberts himself that led the charge. With Ridderhoff and Christensen now off to college, the Trojans will be Robert's team. After a sensational track season where he ran 9:03.79 and 4:14.75. Roberts earned all-state honors in the former.
Now as Roberts concentrates on summer training to prepare for the fall, he took a moment to compete in the Detweiller at Dark meet. He showed he is in great shape despite an odd turn of events. Early on Roberts ran well with 4:50 and 9:53 for the first two miles. As the race entered the final stage, it was all Roberts who looked to win the race comfortably. He oddly stopped short of the finish line and dropped to tie his shoes. The "Hollywood" like act fooled several pursuers except for Thomas Shilgalis who crossed the line as the official winner. It is apparent that distance runners believe in superstitions like the "Detweiller At Dark curse." It is said that the winner has never won a state title. With the shenanigans behind us, it is time to show and prove in little over a month from now.
