Spartans perform well at Rex Foster open meet

Richards led off the first leg of the 4x100 relay.
The Aurora University Spartan men's and women's track and field teams competed at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Rex Foster open meet on Friday afternoon in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
Both teams had good showings at the meet that did not accumulate team scores.

On the women's side, junior Ainsley Richards was a top finisher for AU as she finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 5.03 meters. She also teamed up with Loretta Johnson, Lauren Miller and Courtney Roberts in the 4x100 meter relay to finish fifth with a time of 52.08.

Senior Brittany Paller finished fifth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:07.96. She then was part of the 4x400 meter relay team along with Johnson, Caitlin Monigold and Bri Carter which finished fourth with a time of 4:37.25.

Senior Erin Blackburn finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:17.40 and sophomore Samantha Owens finished fifth in the hammer throw with a throw of 40.97 meters.

On the men's side, the 4x100 meter relay team of Mike Woodard, Alex Hoyle, Matt Snyder and T.J.
Jackson finished second with a time of 44.46. Sophomore Paul Beeler finished third in the triple jump with a jump of 12.68 meters.

Senior Eric Capshaw continued his nice spring performances as he finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 14.23 meters and fourth in the discus with a throw of 40.94 meters.

Sophomore Juan Mercado finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.11 and sixth in the high jump with a jump of 1.76 meters and freshman Roberto Gonzalez finished fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.67.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Jackson, Kyle Kayzar, Gonzalez and Hoyle finished fourth with a time of 3:32.62.

Next action for the Spartan men's and women's track team comes on Saturday, April 14, when they travel to Benedictine University. Meet time is set for 9:30 a.m. in Lisle, Ill.
