The North Central College women's cross country squad remains the Midwest Region's eighth ranked squad in the first regular season regional rankings, released Tuesday by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Cardinals remain eighth after their performance at the Aurora University Spartan Classic on Friday, placing fourth overall at the 15-team meet. North Central is one of two College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squads in the regional poll with Illinois Wesleyan University occupying the No. 10 spot.

Washington University in Saint Louis remains the Midwest Region's top ranked team followed by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is ranked fourth while the University of Chicago rounds out the top five.

The Cardinals tallied 137 points at the season opening Spartan Classic, finishing fourth overall. Fifth-ranked University of Chicago won the meet as the Maroons tallied 21 points. Anne Middleton led the charge for the Cardinals, traversing the 6,000-meter course inside the Oakhurst Forest Preserve in 24 minutes, 46.8 seconds to place 17th overall. Maggie Lapinski was 31st in 25:39.7 while Marissa Holaway finished 43rd (26:16.6) and Jordan Wagner placed 45th (26:29.8).

North Central returns to action on Friday, traveling downstate to Normal, Ill. for the Illinois Intercollegiate Invitational at the Weibring Golf Course.
