Schmitt led Spartans finish 6th in Men's Spartan Classic

Schmitt had a second straight top-ten finish.
The Aurora University Spartan men's cross country team, led by junior Drew Schmitt, finished sixth in the 2011 Spartan Cross Country Classic at Oakhurst Forest Preserve with a team score of 161.

Schmitt finished ninth with a time of 26:17.1 while fellow Spartan, freshman Rob Izzo finished 24th with a time of 27:03.1.

Adding to the strong team finish in the meet were senior Mark Sulkin (47th - 27:33.6), freshman Nick Cole (68th - 28:14.7), freshman Brandon Miller (78th - 28:31.6), junior Morgan Goetschel (80th - 28:34.6) and junior Dale Bolthouse (87th - 28:45.0).

Joining the current Spartans in the 2011 meet was a team of Spartan men's cross country alumni. The alumni competing in the meet marked the second straight season that AU has had an alumni team run in a race with the top alum finisher being Derek Babson who finished 15th with a time of 26:29.6.

Next action for the Spartan men's cross country team comes on Saturday, September 17, 2011 when they travel to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcon Classic. Meet time is set for 11:00 a.m. in Mequon, Wis.
