June 2, 2011 -
Visitors to North Central College's Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium will notice a major change in the venue's competition surface in the coming academic year, as a renovation of Kroehler Field and Jay and Dot Buikema Track is currently being undertaken.

The approximately $500,000 project includes the installation of a new state-of-the-art FieldTurf playing surface to be used by the Cardinals' football, men's and women's soccer, and women's lacrosse programs. North Central was one of the first institutions in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin to install an artificial playing surface in 2001. The new FieldTurf surface is expected to have a life span of 10 to 12 years.

Once the FieldTurf installation is complete, the eight-lane running track will be resurfaced for use by the men's and women's track and field programs.

The entire project is scheduled to be completed in time for the Cardinals' fall sports programs to begin practice in early August.

The renovations are part of a larger plan that also includes enhancement of the College's Riverwalk Gateway and improvement of its Sesquicentennial Walkway. More information about the renovations to the south end of the North Central campus can be found here.
