May 23, 2011--
The North Central College women's track & field team heads to Ohio for the NCAA Division III National Championships ranked 19th in the final installment of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Team Computer Rankings, released Monday.

The computer rankings are new for the 2011 season. Mathematical formulae based on current national descending-order lists in all events are used to compile a team's ranking. The purpose of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The Cardinals tallied 46.77 points in the week eight rankings and are one of three College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squads to be ranked. Carthage College is 11th with 72.65 points while Illinois Wesleyan University, the defending outdoor national champion, is ranked 24th with 41.41 points.

The top five remained unchanged from a week ago with the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh maintains its grip on the No. 1 spot. The Titans tallied 238.83 points followed by Wartburg College (Iowa) as the Knights collected 219.29 points. Rounding out the top five is Massachusetts Institute of Technology in third (164.25), Williams College (Mass.) in fourth (148.66) and Methodist University (N.C.) in fifth (123.85).

The Cardinals will send nine entries spread across six events to the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on May 28-30 in Delaware, Ohio.
