Cardinals Claim 7 Qualifiers at Home Invite

May 13, 2011-- Competing in the penultimate meet leading up to the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships, the North Central College women's track & field team tallied seven provisional qualifiers at the Dr. Keeler Invitational on Thursday and Friday inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

Amanda Laesch kicked off the meet on Thursday by improving her time in the 5,000-meters, finishing in a provisional qualifying time of 17:02.84. Her time was good for second overall and was the top finishing Division III competitor. Also hitting a provisional standard on Thursday was Brianna Tolliver in the javelin throw with a toss of 129' 7".

Kayla Murphy added her name to the national list in the 200-meter dash on Friday, crossing the finish in 25.17 seconds to win the event. Lauren Brightmore placed third in the 400-meter dash in a provisional qualifying 57.21 while Krista Cota hit the national mark in the 800-meter run, finishing sixth in 2:14.29.

Alicia Zimmerman placed 11th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a provisional time of 11:08.62 while the 4x400-meter relay team of Brightmore, Linnea Higgins, Cota and Sheila Walsh closed out the meet by improving their provisional qualifying time, placing runner-up in 3:52.41.

The Cardinals host the Gregory Multi-Events Invitational on Tuesday and Wednesday for decathlon and heptathlon athletes while hosting the Gregory Invitational on Thursday and Friday inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
