Spartan men finish second at NAC Outdoor Championships

Iwanicki won the NAC high jump in a jump off.
The Aurora University Spartan men's track and field team competed at the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Benedictine University at brought home a
second place finish with 149 points.

On the day, AU won three NAC events and set two AU records while junior Eric Capshaw was named the 2011 NAC Outdoor Championships Field Athlete of the Meet. Capshaw won the shot put with a throw of 13.84 meters, third in the javelin with a throw of 48.86 meters, fourth in the discus with a throw of 39.57 meters and was fifth in the hammer throw with a throw of 43.62 meters. His scoring in the four events he participated in accounted for 16.8 percent of the Spartans total on the day.

Junior Evan Hackbarth scored in five different events with his top finish being  third in the long jump with a
school record jump of 6.66 meter, third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.30, third in the high jump with a jump of 1.82 meters. He also finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 44.05 meters and seventh in the pole vault with a vault of 3.51 meters.

Freshman Anthony McTizic won the 400 meter dash with a school record time of 49.76 and fellow freshman Loren Iwanicki won the high jump with a jump of 1.87 meters.

Junior's Mark Sulkin and Robert Lopez both finished second in their respective events with Sulkin's coming in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.35 and Lopez in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.63.

The 4x400 meter relay team of freshman Chris Moss, freshman Kyle Kayzar, sophomore Martin Lamar and McTizic finished second with a time of 3:29.04.

Freshman sprinter T.J. Jackson finished third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.37 as freshman Juan Mercado finished third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.75 and senior Jeff Fellers finished third in the pole vault with a vault of 3.82 meters.

AU had 19 different student-athletes tally a point in the 20 events that made up the NAC Championships with the Spartans having 31 point scoring finishes.

Next action for the Spartan men's track and field teams comes on Thursday, May 12 and Friday, May 13, 2011 when they compete at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College. Meet time is set for 3:00 p.m. on both dates in Naperville, Ill.
