Spartan women finish second at NAC Outdoor Championships

Hartman set AU and NAC records in the 2011 Championships
The Aurora University Spartan women's track and field team competed at the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Benedictine University at brought home a second place finish with 125 points.

On the day, AU won three NAC events, set five AU records and set two NAC outdoor records. SeniorCait Hartman won the long jump with a school and NAC Championships record jump of 5.33 meters, won the triple jump with a school, NAC all-time and NAC Championships record jump of 10.75 meters and then went on to finish second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.50.

Joining Hartman as an event winner was junior Erin Blackburn, who won the javelin with a throw of 33.15 meters. 

The 4x100 relay team of sophomore Ainsley Richards, freshman Amber Walker, Hartman and junior Courtney Roberts finished second in a trmemndous race with a school record time of 50.64. The team finished 00.02 behind the race winners.

A short time later, Richards finished second in the triple jump to Hartman with a jump of 10.05 meters and Roberts finished third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.31.

The 4x400 relay team of Walker, freshman Caitlin Monigold, Hartman and freshman Krystle Eskridge finished third with a school record time of 4:13.33. Eskridge went on to finish fifth in the 400 meter dash with a school record time of 1:01.54.

Freshman Laura Vincent rounded out the Spartans strong showing when she finished third in the pole vault with a vault of 2.45 meters.

AU had 19 different student-athletes tally a point in the 20 events that made up the NAC Championships with the Spartans having 31 point scoring finishes.

Next action for the Spartan women's track and field teams comes on Thursday, May 12 and Friday, May 13, 2011 when they compete at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College. Meet time is set for 3:00 p.m. on both dates in Naperville, Ill.
