Apr. 12, 2011-- North Central College's Dan Benton was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Track & Field Runner of the Week on Tuesday for his performance over the weekend at the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships.

The senior cruised to victory in the 400-meter dash on Saturday, clocking a provisional qualifying time of 47.73 seconds to top the field of 47 entrants. His performance helped the Cardinals run away with the team title, tallying 190 points to win the 20-team championship. Division I University of Illinois-Chicago was runner-up with 114 points while host University of Chicago was third with 99 points.

This is the third Athlete of the Week nod for Benton who was honored on Feb. 1 and again on Feb. 8 during the indoor season. Benton is the second North Central athlete to claim the award during the outdoor season after Michael Spain won the honor on Apr. 5.

The Cardinals return to the track on Wednesday, competing at the Wheaton College Twilight Invitational that was bumped up from Saturday after the threat of inclement weather.
