Mar. 9, 2011-- North Central College's pole vault coach
Tim Winder has been honored as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year for the Midwest Region on Wednesday.
Winder helped four athletes qualifying for the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships, including
Peter Geraghty, who currently holds the nation's best vault, clearing 17 feet, 1 1/2 inch.
John Wood and
Josh Winder head into nationals tied for fifth nationally after vaulting 16' 8 3/4" while
Thomas Stacey is seventh nationally with a vault of 16' 6".
Winder, who has been on staff for the past 18 years has produced the last 10 indoor College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Indoor Champions in the pole vault and is responsible for the last two national champions in the event.
The top-ranked Cardinals look to capture their second straight national title on Friday and Saturday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships hosted by Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
