Feb. 15, 2011-- North Central College's Kayla Murphy was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for her effort's at the Chicagoland Indoor Championships.

Competing in the long jump for the first time in her collegiate career, Murphy finished fourth at Friday's Chicagoland Indoor Championships held on the Al B. Carius Track with a leap of 17 feet 2 1/4 inches. Her jump is currently the third best in the CCIW this season. The junior additionally placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing 11' 1 3/4".

On the track, Murphy placed second in the 60-meter dash, clocking a provisional qualifying effort of 7.75 while winning the 200-meter dash in 25.75.

Murphy becomes the third Cardinal to earn CCIW Athlete of the Week honors this season. Sheila Walsh was named Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 25 while Michelle Criscione claimed Field Athlete of the Week honors on Feb. 1.

The seventh-ranked Cardinals amassed 150.33 points to secure their second straight Chicagoland Indoor Championships team title while the University of Chicago finished second with 109 points.

North Central hosts the Cardinal Classic on Friday with events getting underway at 5 p.m.
