WHITEWATER, Wis. (Feb. 5, 2011)--The 14th-ranked North Central College women's track & field squad tallied five provisional qualifying efforts over the weekend, competing at the Keck Pentathlon on Friday while placing third at Saturday's Warhawk Classic.

Melissa Savino kicked off the weekend on Friday with a victory in the pentathlon at the Keck Invitational inside Illinois Wesleyan University's Shirk Center, amassing a provisional qualifying 3,186 points in the event. The senior's total established a new school record in the event, breaking her own record of 3,142 set last season at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships. Savino would additionally tally a third place finish in the 55-meter hurdles (8.76) on Saturday at the Warhawk Classic.

On Saturday, Sheila Walsh and Lauren Brightmore finished 1-2 in the 400-meter dash, each hitting the provisional qualifying mark. Walsh clocked a 57.64 while Brightmore crossed the finish in 58.44. Fellow sprinter Kayla Murphy notched a pair of top three finishes, placing third in the 55-meter dash (7.33) before clocking a 25.79 in the 200-meter dash to place second.

In the distance events, Amanda Laesch hit the provisional qualifying standard in the 5,000-meters, finishing second in 17:32.75 while Lauren Hooks placed one spot back in third in 18:16.14.

In the field events, Carolyn Kalafut cleared 11 feet 3 3/4 inches to place third in the pole vault while Basheeba Mays placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 35' 11 1/2".

The Cardinals capped off the meet by winning the 4x400-meter relay as Brightmore, Walsh, Krista Cota and Kala Bingham clocked a provisional qualifying effort of 3:59.00.

No. 1 ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the eight-team Warhawk Classic, amassing 145 points while the University of Chicago was second with 128. North Central tallied 103 points for third while host University of Wisconsin-Whitewater was fourth with 99 points.

The Cardinals return to the track on Friday, Feb. 11, hosting the Chicagoland Indoor Championships at the Al B. Carius Track with events slated to get underway at 5 p.m.
