Jan. 25, 2011--
The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced its Athletes of the Week for men's track & field on Tuesday with North Central College's Michael Spain and Josh Winder earning the honor for their efforts at Friday's Cardinal Opener.

Spain captures the Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 5,000-meter run in a facility record and provisional qualifying time of 14:30.53. His time is currently the second fastest performance in NCAA Division III this season and is .53 seconds off the NCAA Division III automatic qualifying mark.

Winder secured Field Athlete of the Week honors after winning the pole vault, clearing 16 feet 8 3/4 inches. His performance meets the NCAA Division III automatic qualifying standard and currently is the top vault in the nation at the non-Division I level.

North Central won its second straight meet on Friday, amassing 174.5 points to edge runner-up University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh by 12 points. The Cardinals additionally had nine national qualifiers and established three new facility records at the Al B. Carius Track.

The Cardinals return to action on Friday, hosting the NCC Quadrangular with events slated to get underway at 5 p.m.
