IOWA CITY, Iowa - Senior Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo. (McCluer North) finished third in the mile and also was part of Bradley's fourth-place finishing 4x400 relay team to highlight competition for the track and field team Saturday at the season-opening Iowa Open.
Goldkamp posted the top finish of the day for the Braves, crossing the line less than five seconds behind first-place finisher Megan Ranegar of Iowa with a time of 5:09.29. Freshman Whitney Schumacher (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) was one of eight Bradley runners in the mile and finished seventh at 5:30.43.
In the 800 meters, Goldkamp took eighth at 2:22.75 to pace five Bradley individuals in the field and also took part in the 4x400 relay, where she and the freshmen trio of Kayla Austin (Peoria, Ill./Limestone), Cassie Lohmeier (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) and Emily Wolbers (Moline, Ill./Moline) took fourth behind a trio of Iowa 4x400 squads with a time of 4:28.38.
Wolbers was sixth in the 600 meters at 1:43.23, edging out teammate Michelle Hartman (Savanna, Ill./Prince of Peace) who finished two seconds back of Wolbers in ninth at 1:45.22.
Junior Lyndsey Cleghorn (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) cleared 1.5 meters (4'11") to place fifth in the high jump, while fellow junior Tatierra Bivens (Chicago, Ill./Marist) clocked an 8.56 seconds to take fifth in the 60-meter dash in addition to running a time of 30.66 in the 200 meters to finish 12th.
The Bradley track and field team returns to action Saturday when the Braves head to Champaign, Ill., for the Illini Open.
