Schmitt becomes the first AU cross country runner to be honored as an All-Region selection in the history of the program, which AU began in the fall of 2003.

At the regional meet hosted by Augustana College, Schmitt once again shattered the school record, which he has continued to lower throughout the 2010 season. He finished 34th with his school-record time of 24:56.7, which was 35 seconds faster than his previous record.

"Drew exemplifies the results of smart training and even smarter racing,” said AU Head Coach Ryan Chapman. “While only a sophomore, he has raced himself into the top ranks of Division III distance runners. It should be fun to see what he can do this track season."

Prior to the regional meet, Schmitt was named Northern Athletics Conference First-Team All-Conference after he finished the 8,000-meter course at Greenfield Park at Wisconsin Lutheran College in 26:42 to finish in second place.
