Schmitt shatters record while leading Spartans at regional meet

The Aurora University Spartan men's cross country team had a good showing at the 2010 NCAA Division III regional meet hosted by Augustana College. Led by sophomore Drew Schmitt who once again shattered
the school record which he has continued to lower throughout the 2010 season.

Schmitt and two of his AU teammates, junior Mark Sulkin and freshman Mike Giberson, bettered their own personal bests while at AU in the meet while the team finished 25th in the 39 team meet.

Schmitt finished 34th with his school record time of 24:56.7 which was 35 seconds faster than his previous record. Sulkin finished 102nd with a time of 26:01.1 which was 29 seconds better than his previous time and is second all-time on the AU men's top time list. Giberson finished 168th with a time of 27:06.8 and improved his AU freshman record time by 23 seconds.

Other Spartans competing at the regional meet were sophomore Morgan Goetschel (204th - 28:13.8), senior Mark Akins (229th - 28:56.0.) and senior Tom Mariak (244th - 29:27.0).
