Nov. 16, 2010-- For the second consecutive season, North Central College's Michael Spain was honored as the Midwest Region Runner of the Year, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.

Spain captures the award after winning the individual title the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships on Oct. 30 and at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Nov. 14. Spain won the CCIW title by a 17-second margin, finishing the 8,000-meter race in 24:15.6 before claiming his second straight regional title two weeks later,  crossing the tape in 24:06.4. The senior has won all six races he competed in this season and is a four-time CCIW Runner of the Week honoree.

The two-time cross country All-American closes out the season on Saturday, Nov. 20, at the NCAA Division III National Championships in Waverly, Iowa where he will try and help the Cardinals capture their second straight national title. Action is slated to begin at 11 a.m. at the Max Cross Country Course.
