The Aurora University Spartan men's and women's cross country teams were well represented on the 2010 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) All-Conference teams.
For the men's portion of the 2010 Northern Athletics Conference Championships, the Spartans came up three points shy of capturing the NAC championship, taking home second place just behind champion Concordia University Wisconsin. AU Head Coach
Ryan Chapman was named 2010 NAC Men's Co-Coach of the Year.
First-Team All-Conference runner
Drew Schmitt led the Spartans, finishing the 8,000-meter course at Greenfield Park in 26:42 to finish in second place.
Mark Sulkin, also a First-Team All-Conference runner, took 10th place in a time of 27:46. The third and fourth Spartan runners were
Keith Burke, who finished 18th with a time of 28:34; and
Michael Giberson, who came in 19th with a time of 28:35.
Morgan Goetschel finished in 25th position with a time of 29:04 to round out the Spartans tallying points for the meet. Burke, Giberson and Goetschel were named NAC Honorable Mention All-Conference with Goetschel also being named to the NAC Men's All-Sportsmanship Team.
In the women's portion of the 2010 NAC Championships, the Spartans finished third in the 11-team meet with 86 points. The Spartans had their top five finishers all come across
the line in the top 27 positions.
First-Team All-Conference runner
Krystle Eskridge was the only Spartan in the top 10, finishing ninth with a time of 25:00, while senior and First-Team All-Conference runner
Brittany Paller was closely behind, finishing 11th in 25:19. Sophomore
Briana Deckard came across the finish line in 16th position with a time of 25:57. Freshman
Anna Perkowski finished 26th (26:07) and junior
Erin Cinto finished 27th (26:11). Deckard, Perkowski and Cinto were all named NAC Honorable Mention All-Conference. Paller was selected to the NAC Women's All-Sportsmanship Team.
AU will compete at the NCAA Division III Regional on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Credit Island Park in Davenport, Iowa. The meet is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
