Women's Cross Country Remains 6th in Regional Rankings

Nov. 2, 2010-- The North Central College women's cross country team remains the Midwest Region's sixth-ranked squad in the week eight United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional rankings, released Tuesday.

The Cardinals remain sixth in the Midwest Region after winning the 2010 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships on Saturday at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill. North Central amassed 26 points to out-distance runner-up and ninth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University by a 37-point margin while Amanda Laesch was crowned the individual champion, finishing the 6,000-meter race in 21:47 and winning by a comfortable 57-second margin.

Washington University in Saint Louis claims the region's top spot after winning the University Athletic Association Championships on Saturday while the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire hold steady at No. 2 and No. 3. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is fourth while former No. 1 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh rounds out the top five, tumbling four spots in the rankings.

The Cardinals have the weekend off before returning to the Saukie Golf Course for the 2010 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday, Nov. 13. The women's race is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
