Spartan men and Schmitt finish second at NAC Championships

Schmitt led the Spartand with a second place finish
Competing in the 2010 Northern Athletics Conference Championships, the Spartans came up three point shy of recapturing the NAC Championship, taking home second place just behind champion Concordia
University Wisconsin.

Drew Schmitt led the Spartans, finishing the 8,000 meter course at Greenfield Park in 26:42 to finish in second place. Mark Sulkin took 10th place in a time of 27:46. The third and fourth Spartan runners top-20 were Keith Burke who finished 18th with a time of 28:34 and Michael Giberson who came in 19th with a time of 28:35.

Morgan Goetschel finished in 25th position with a time of 29:04 to round out the Spartans tallying points for the meet. The remaining Spartans runners competing in the NAC Championships were Tom Mariak (63rd), Colin Toyra (64th), Kyle Kazar (75th), Kevin Price (78th), Dale Bolthouse (82nd), Robert Lopez (91st) and Sam Rowe (97th).

Overall, the Spartans finished second with 70 points while Concordia Wisconsin won the meet with 67 points and Edgewood College finished third with 71 points. Just as the Spartans did, Concordia Wisconsin placed all five runners in the top-25. Concordia Wisconsin's Andy Ashenden won the meet for the second consecutive year with a time of 25:43.

AU will compete at the NCAA Division III Regional on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Credit Island Park in Davenport, Iowa. The meet is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
