URBANA, Ill. -- Three Bradley women's cross country runners set career-best 5K times as select members of both the Bradley men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Illini Open Friday at the University of Illinois Arboretum.
Junior Sarah Hallstein (Minier, Ill./Olympia) was the Braves top finisher on the women's side crossing the line in 43rd with a time of 20:11. Freshman Chris Douglas (Hurlburt Field, Fla./Fort Walton Beach) paced the men's team, finishing 39th with an 8K time of 27:48.
The women's team had five individuals compete, while the men's squad had just three individuals in the field. Junior Michelle Hartman (Savanna, Ill./Prince of Peace) clocked a career-best in the women's 5K, covering the course in a time of 20:43 to finish 52nd and sophomore Chelsea Griffin (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA) was 57th overall after running a career-best 20:50 to help highlight the day for the women's squad.
In the men's race, sophomore Nick Skromme (Ottawa, Ill./Marquette) finished four seconds behind his career-best time in 43rd place at 27:58. Freshman Shane Garland (Webster Groves, Mo./Webster Groves) was 56th in the men's field with a time of 28:47.
The Bradley men's and women's cross country teams return to action Saturday, Oct. 30 at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Augusta, Kan.
