Oct. 19, 2010-- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released the seventh installment of the regional rankings on Tuesday with the North Central College women's cross country squad jumping up one spot to sixth in the Midwest Region.

The Cardinals moved up one spot to sixth, swapping places with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is the region's top squad followed by the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Washington University in Saint Louis, last week's No. 1 team, falls to fourth with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point rounding out the top five.

Illinois Wesleyan University is the only other College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squad to appear in the rankings, maintaining its spot as the region's 10th-ranked team.

North Central finished 10th at the 36-team UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational on Saturday, recording 266 points. The field included several of the  region's top teams including the No. 1 ranked teams from the Midwest, Great Lakes and South regions. Amanda Laesch highlighted the Cardinals' individual efforts, placing fourth after finishing the 6,000-meter course in 21:40. For her efforts, Laesch was honored as the CCIW Runner of the Week on Tuesday marking the fifth time this season the senior has won the award.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 30, traveling to Rock Island, Ill. for the CCIW Championships where North Central will look to claim its second straight conference title.
