Cardinals Remain No. 1 in Midwest Region

Oct. 12, 2010-- The North Central College men's cross country team occupies the top spot in the Midwest Region for the fourth straight week in the sixth installment of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional rankings, released Tuesday.

The Cardinals retain their top ranking for the fourth consecutive week while Washington University in Saint Louis remains the region's second ranked team. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point jumped one spot to third while the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is fourth. College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival Augustana College is fifth while Wheaton College is the third CCIW institution in the rankings, remaining the region's 10th ranked team.

North Central rested several of its top runners over the weekend but still managed to place third at the 15-team Benedictine University Eagle Invitational held at Lisle Community Park on Friday. Kelvin Guilbault was the top Cardinal finisher, completing the 8,000-meter course in 26:37.11 to finish ninth. Mitch Gilbert was 13th in 27:00.97 while Dave Janet was 15th in 27:03.33.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 16, traveling to Winneconne, Wis. for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational.
