WAVERLY, Iowa (Oct. 9, 2010)-- The North Central College women's cross country squad turned in a third place showing on Saturday at the 23-team Dan Huston Pre-National Invitational held at Wartburg College's Max Cross Country Course.

The Cardinals amassed 121 points in the team tally, finishing third amongst the 23-team field. Host Wartburg College won the meet with 65 points while Saint Olaf University (Minn.) was second, scoring 99 points.

Leading North Central was Amanda Laesch. The senior finished the 6,000-meter course in 22:23 to place third overall. Lauren Hooks was the second Cardinal to cross the finish line, clocking a 23:22 to finish 13th. Sarah Scanlin was 32nd with a time of 24:05 while Kala Bingham (24:15) and Krista Cota (24:16) finished back-to-back in 36th and 37th places, respectively.

Saint Norbert College's (Wis.) Jenny Scherer was the top individual finisher, winning the race with a time of 21:56.

North Central additionally sent a squad to the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational on Friday, finishing seventh among the 17-team field. Colleen Oakes (25:34.73) and Britney Kravish (25:38.16) were the top finishers for the Cardinals in Lisle, placing 32nd and 33rd.

The Cardinals compete as a split-squad once again on Oct. 16, taking the top team to the University of Wisconsin Invitational in Winneconne, Wis. while the rest of the squad will compete at the Skyhawk Invitational in Dixon, Ill.
