Oct. 5, 2010 - North Central College's Michael Spain has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Cross Country Co-Runner of the Week Award for the week of Sept. 27-Oct. 3.

Spain, a finance and economics major, won the individual championship in the Gold Division race at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday. He won the 8,000-meter race in 24 minutes, 41 seconds, as North Central placed second to Eastern Michigan University. Spain shared this week's Runner of the Week Award with Wheaton College sophomore Parker Thompson.

Spain, who is unbeaten in three races this season, has now won three CCIW Runner of the Week Awards, while teammate Pat Lesiewicz has also been a recipient of the honor.

The Cardinals, currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division III regional and national rankings, will send a reserve squad to the Benedictine University Invitational on Friday, while the varsity will compete at the Pre-Nationals at Wartburg College (Iowa).
