CHICAGO – Chicago State University (CSU) women's cross country/track and field head coach Diana Muhammad announces the addition of local student-athletes Ashley Alamgir (Chicago, Ill./Mather) (Chicago, Ill.) and Jennifer Sanford (Hammond, IN/Morton) (Hammond, Ind.) for the 2010-11 school year. Both athletes will have four years of eligibility with the Cougars in both sports beginning this fall with cross country.

“I feel that these two ladies have the ability to enhance the overall development of the women's track and field team,” Muhammad said.

Alamgir was a two-time team MVP at Mather High School on Chicago's north side where she competed in four events during her prep career. She recorded personal-best times of 26 seconds in the 200-meter dash, 1:01 in the 400-meter dash, and 2:38 in the 800-meter run in addition to posting a PR in the high jump of five feet.

Sanford earned two varsity letters in cross country at Morton High School in Hammond, Ind., and earned all-conference honors in 2008. She was a two-time regional qualifier in addition to earning the team's “Most Promising” award in 2006 and the “Most Valuable Runner” award in 2008. Sanford also garnered four letters in track and field for Morton while qualifying for the Indiana state finals and earning “Most Valuable Athlete” honors in her senior season.

Alamgir and Sanford join freshman Jaya Emerson (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell) (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior college transfer Jasmine Walker (Capitol Heights, MD/Essex CC) (Capitol Heights, Md.) as newcomers to the team.
