Schmitt Wins as Spartan Men finish 5th at Falcon Invite

Schmitt broke an AU record in winning the Falcon Invite
Spartan sophomore Drew Schmitt took medalist honors at the 2010 Concordia University Wisconsin Falcon Invitational in Mequon, Wis. as the Spartan men brought home a fifth place finish in the 15 team meet.

Schmitt continued his torrid pace to start the 2010 season as he won the men's meet with a school record time of 26:36. The time surpassed his previous record of 26:38 which he set one week ago at the AU Spartan Classic.

Junior Mark Sulkin backed up Schmitt with a 15th place finish at a time of 27:36, while freshman Mike Giberson finished 28th with a time of 28:03, senior Keith Burke finished 34th with a time of 28:28, sophomore Morgan Goetschel finished 54th with a time of 29:31.

Finishing well but not factoring into the team score were sophomore Dale Bolthouse (69th - 30:35) and senior Mark Akins (74th - 30:48).

Next action for the Spartan men's cross country team comes on Friday, September 24, 2010 when they travel to the Brisman Lundeen Invitational at Augustana College. Meet time is set for 4:45 p.m. in Rock Island, Ill.
