PEORIA, Ill. - The Bradley men's and women's cross country teams will stay close to home for the second outing of the 2010 season, competing at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships Friday afternoon in Normal, Ill.
The Braves have had nearly two weeks since opening the 2010 cross country season at the J.K. Gold Classic in Augusta, Kan., on Sept. 4. Senior Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) finished fifth in the season-opening event, pacing the women's team with a career-best 4K time of 14:08.58.
Four of Bradley's top six finishers on the women's side at the J.K. Gold Classic were freshmen, with Whitney Schumacher (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) turning in the top time for the newcomers with a 14:38.62 to finish 12th in the field.
Senior Andrew Wieser (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) was the top finisher on the men's side in the opener for first-year Bradley men's and women's cross country head coach Marc Burns. Wieser missed a top 10 finish by just six seconds, crossing the line in 14th place with a career-best 6K time of 19:14.93.
The Illinois Intercollegiate Championship will begin Friday with the women's 5K at 5 p.m., followed by the men's 8K at 5:45 p.m. at the Weibring Golf Course on the campus of Illinois State.
