The Aurora University Spartan men's cross country team, led by sophomore Drew Schmitt, finished fifth in the 2010 Spartan Cross Country Classic at Oakhurst Forest Preserve with a team score of 171.

Schmitt finished 26th while setting an AU men's 8k record with a time of 26:38.9. Fellow Spartan men's cross country newcomer, junior Mark Sulkin finished 33rd with a time of 26:50.6.

Adding to the strong team finish in the meet were freshman Michael Giberson (62nd - 27:46.9), senior Keith Burke (69th - 27:58.7), sophomore Morgan Goetschel (109th - 29:23.3) and sophomore Dale Bolthouse (126th - 30:09.4).

Joining the current Spartans in the 2010 meet was a team of Spartan men's cross country alumni. The alumni competing in the meet marked the first time that AU has had an alumni team run in a race with the top alum finisher being Derek Babson who finished 54th with a time of 27:30.5.

Next action for the Spartan men's cross country team comes on Saturday, September 18, 2010 when they travel to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcon Classic. Meet time is set for 11:00 a.m. in Mequon, Wis.
