Schmitt, competing in his first collegiate event for the Spartans, won the Waubonsee Community College Chief Invitational with a time of 27:13, which led AU to a second-place team finish in the 8K event.

The next action for Schmitt and the men's cross country team comes on Friday, September 10, 2010, when they host the AU Spartan Classic. Meet time is set for 5:45 p.m. at Oakhurst Forest Preserve in Aurora, Ill. with the women's race starting at 5:00 p.m.
