Chicago State Women’s Track & Field Adds Junior College Transfer

Former Essex County College runner Jasmine Walker is the newest addition to Chicago State Women's Track and Field/Cross Country for 2010-11

CHICAGO – Chicago State University (CSU) women's cross country/track and field head coach Diana Muhammad announces the signing of junior college transfer Jasmine Walker (Capitol Heights, MD/Essex CC), who will have two years of eligibility with the Cougars beginning in September with cross country.

“Jasmine has the ability to become a conference champion and I am looking forward to her improving her marks in the 800 and 1,000-meter events,” said Muhammad. “She definitely has shown that she has the collegiate experience in running personal record times.”

Walker, a native of Capitol Heights, Md., comes to CSU after spending two years at Essex County College in New Jersey where she competed in the mid-distance events. During her sophomore season, she recorded several PR times in both indoor and outdoor competitions in addition to placing seventh in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:07.90 at the NJCAA Indoor Championships in Charleston, Ill. Walker also recorded a time of 2:24.84 in the 800-meter run at the TCNJ Lions Invitational during the 2010 outdoor season.

Before heading to Essex CC, Walker earned nine letters during her prep career at Largo High School in Upper Marlboro, Md. She helped Largo's 4x800-meter relay team win the state championship with a time of 9:26 and was a two-time Most Improved Runner award recipient in cross country.

Walker joins freshman Jaya Emerson (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell) (Charlotte, N.C.) as newcomers to the team. Coach Muhammad will announce more additions later this week.
