Nicole Benson Wins Steamboat 15K

PEORIA, Ill. - Sophomore Nicole Benson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) won the women's 15K race at the 37th annual Steamboat Classic Saturday morning.

Benson, who finished fourth in the 2008 event with a time of 1:02.57, crossed the line in a time of 58:01 Saturday to edge second-place finisher Sarah Cushing by 41 seconds (58:42).

During her freshman season, Benson was a three-time Missouri Valley Conference Athlete of the Week and finished second at the State Farm Missouri Valley Cross Country Championship. She was 24th at the NCAA Cross Country Regional and went on to earn All-Missouri Valley Conference honors in both cross country and indoor track and field.
