Cardinals Land Five Qualifiers at Last Chance Meet

May 21, 2010-- Four athletes and one relay recorded provisional qualifying marks and one school record fell as the North Central College women's track and field squad hosted the Gregory Invitational on Thursday and Friday at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

On Thursday, Amanda Laesch broke the school record in the 5,000-meter run for the second straight week, clocking a provisional qualifying effort of 17:22.46 to finish sixth among the 34-athlete field. Also hitting a provisional standard on Thursday was Rachel Secrest who placed third in the pole vault after clearing 12 feet 8 inches.

On Friday, Shelly Dulman battled the wet conditions to finish second in the javelin throw with a toss of 126'6" while in the high jump, Michelle Criscione cleared 5'4 1/4" to finish in a tie for the runner-up spot.

On the track, Lauren Brightmore finished second in the 400-meter dash, crossing the tape in a provisional qualifying and season best time of 56.73. Her effort was over a quarter-second faster than her previous best mark set at the Whitewater Twilight Last Chance Meet on Wednesday. Brandye Jackson posted the team's fourth provisional effort of the meet, clocking a 14.83 in the preliminary heats of the 100-meter hurdles.

The Cardinals' 4x400-meter relay squad closed the meet with a seventh place finish, clocking a provisional qualifying time of 3:55.71 to win their heat.
 
North Central returns to action on Thursday for the start of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
