Men's Track Tallies 10 Qualifiers at Dr. Keeler Invite

May 14, 2010-- The North Central College men's track and field team tallied seven provisional qualifying performances while three athletes recorded automatic qualifying efforts at the two-day Dr. Keeler Invitational held at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

Two events generated six national qualifying performances for the Cardinals on Thursday, as four pole vaulters earned provisional qualifying marks and two 5,000-meter runners clocked automatic qualifying times. John Wood won the pole vault, clearing 16 feet 1 3/4 inches while Peter Geraghty placed second after clearing the same height, adding his name to the national list. Thomas Stacey improved his standing on the national list by six inches, clearing 16' 1 3/4" as well, placing third on misses while Steven Stack finished fourth with a provisional vault of 15'7 3/4".

Michael Spain and Kyle Brady each hit the automatic qualifying mark in the 5,000, finishing second and fourth respectively. Spain's time of 14:24.34 was over four seconds faster than his previous season-best and was the top collegiate time in the event while Brady posted a season-best time of 14:27.31.

Jacob Austin emerged with the best time among a field of 91 runners in the 1,500-meters on Friday, clocking a provisional qualifying time of 3:51.43. Sean Carlson shaved over 20 seconds off his College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships winning time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, turning in an automatic qualifying time of 9:06.99 to place fourth while Chris Kane hit the provisional qualifying standard, crossing the tape in 9:16.38, placing 16th.

The Cardinals closed out the meet with a fifth place showing in the 4x400-meter relay, clocking a provisional qualifying time of 3:16.09.

North Central hosts the Gregory Multi-Events on Tuesday and Wednesday before closing out the pre-championship season on Thursday and Friday, hosting the Gregory Invitational.
