USTFCCCA Release

Jun. 10, 2010-- North Central College men's track & field coach Al Carius has been named the NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year for the outdoor season by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday.

Carius claims the award after guiding the Cardinals to the national title, scoring 53 points to outpace runner-up Salisbury University (Md.) by a 17-point margin at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College on May 27-29. Seven individuals achieved All-American status at the meet as the Cardinals scored points across four different events. The victory made North Central just the second team in Division III history to sweep the national cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field championships in one academic year and was North Central's 25th national championship.

This is the third national award bestowed upon Carius this academic year as the USTFCCCA honored him as the National Cross Country Coach of the Year in November and the National Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year in March.

Carius has now won 20 National Championships during his tenure at North Central, winning 13 in cross country, five in outdoor track & field and two in indoor track & field.
