AUSTIN, Texas. -- Junior Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) finished 41st in the preliminaries of the 1,500 meters at the NCAA West Regional Thursday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Track And Soccer Stadium.
The first Bradley runner to advance to NCAA postseason competition since Mary Ellen Hill-Shupbach in 1999, Goldkamp ran in the second of four heats Thursday and finished with a time of 4:36.08. One of three individuals from the Missouri Valley Conference in the field, Goldkamp finished 41st in a field of 51 competitors and was the top Valley finisher as she beat out Casey McDermott from Drake and Illinois State's Aisha Praught
Washington senior Katie Follett won heat #2 with a time of 4:23.33, while Goldkamp finished 10th of 13 in the second heat. The top five individuals from each of the four heats, plus the next four fastest times advance to Saturday's NCAA Quarterfinal Round.
