PEORIA, Ill. - Bradley University will announce the 2010 Charles Orsborn Award winner from a pool of three finalists during the athletic department's annual Senior Send Off and Awards Ceremony Tuesday night at the Michel Student Center Ballroom.

Tuesday's ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. with the hour-long Senior Send Off program, which is coordinated by the Braves Council to recognize all of the graduating senior student-athletes. The Awards program immediately will follow Senior Send Off, approximately 7 p.m., and will include the presentation of the Orville Nothdurft Lifetime Achievement Award, the Carl Grose Community Service Award, the Megan C. Fong Inspiration Award and men's and women's versions of the Coach Joe Stowell Award, as well as the announcement of the candidates for the Alumni B-Club Most Outstanding Athlete awards.

The Charles Orsborn Award is the highest honor Bradley University bestows upon a graduating senior student-athlete and recognizes the ability of the winner to combine athletic and academic success with community service. The 2010 Orsborn Award finalists include softball player Janay Mitchell (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South H.S.), women's cross country and track runner Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake H.S.) and women's basketball player Jenny Van Kirk (Waconia, Minn./Waconia H.S.).

After leading the team in hitting during her sophomore season in 2008, Mitchell helped the Bradley Softball team to its first-ever Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship and a win in its first NCAA Tournament game by leading the Braves in hits and runs scored last season. Boasting a 3.56 cumulative grade point average while majoring in international business, Mitchell was an honorable mention Valley Scholar-Athlete in 2009 and she has earned a spot on the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of her first seven semesters.

Nowak owns the indoor track and field school record for the mile and is a member of the indoor track and field school-record distance medley relay team. Currently boasting The Valley's fourth-best time this outdoor season in the 1,500 meters, as well as the fourth-best mark in the 800 meters, Nowak was the runner-up in the 1,500 meters during the 2008 MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Boasting a 3.97 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering (biomedical concentration) with a minor in biology, Nowak has earned a spot on the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of her first nine semesters and is a two-time (2007, 2008) member of The Valley's Track and Field Scholar-Athlete Team in addition to garnering a spot on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V team in 2008.

Van Kirk has served as co-captain of the Bradley women's basketball team each of the last two years, helping the Braves to a program-best 21 victories in 2008-09 and the program's first-ever postseason tournament appearance in 2009-10. Tied for 10th in program history by playing in 111 career games, she was the only Brave to start all 31 games this past season. Sporting a perfect 4.0 GPA while working on an individualized major, Van Kirk is preparing for medical school in the fall. She is a two-time (2009, 2010) member of the I-AAA Athletic Director's Association Scholar All-America team and is the second player in program history to twice earn a spot on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V team.

All three student-athletes boast extensive lists of community service, both on campus and throughout Peoria.
